Police Records Checks - Downloadable form click here The Port Moody Police Department provides two specific background investigations: 1) Police Certificate Most foreign governments require a Police Certificate prior to the issuing of a residence visa or work visa or external stays visa. The Port Moody Police Department will make several database queries and possibly contact other police agencies prior to issuing a Police Certificate. This Police Certificate will certify that the individual named in the Police Certificate does not have a Criminal Record in Canada.
When a police database check reveals that an individual with a similar name may have a Criminal Record in Canada then no Police Certificate will be issued. To confirm whether this Criminal Conviction is actually that of the individual, the individual must attend the Port Moody Police Department and provide a set of their fingerprints. These fingerprints will be forwarded to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ottawa and where an actual fingerprint comparison will be made. Based the results of this examination, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will forward a certified document to the individual outlining their findings. 2) Enhanced Police Records Check & Vulnerable Persons Screening The Enhanced Police Records Check process is a comprehensive background check. This process has been designed specifically for:
1) individuals in positions of trust and/or
2) individuals who have contact with vulnerable individuals.
Positions of trust is not limited to: handling sensitive information; controlling or processing money; transporting individuals or property; having contact with vulnerable individuals based on employment; etc…
A vulnerable person is anyone who, for whatever reason, is unable to protect themselves without support. This could be individuals under the age of 18 or with vulnerable individuals who, because of their age, a disability, or other circumstances, whether temporary or permanent, are in a position of dependence on others or are otherwise at greater risk than the general population of being harmed by persons in a position of authority or trust relative. In conducting all Police Record Checks, the Port Moody Police Department checks specific police and government databases: 1) Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s PIRS system; 2) Police Record Information Management Environment of British Columbia (PRIME-BC (all police agencies records in British Columbia); 3) Police Information Portal (PIP) (access RCMP and some other Canadian police agencies outside of British Columbia.
