Port Moody Police Victim Services 

Port Moody Police Victim Services is located in Port Moody Police Department and offers support to those affected by crime or other traumatic incidences.  Our trained and experienced staff and volunteers are ready to respond to the needs of victims by providing emotional support, referrals to community agencies, police and court updates, and at any stage can assist in dealing with any problems which may result from the incident.

It is the mandate of Police-based Victim Services programs to provide assistance to victims of all types of crimes, including those individuals affected by a crime where the perpetrator is not identified or charged.  All too often victims of crime are unaware of what resources in the community are available to them.  This is where Victim Services can assist.

 The objectives of the Victim Services program are:

  1. to lessen the impact of crime and trauma on primary victims and assist in their recovery

  2. to increase the victim’s level of participation and sense of empowerment while participating in the criminal justice system

  3. to increase the effectiveness and comfort of victims while acting as witnesses in court proceedings

  4. to increase victim safety and help prevent re-victimization

 Port Moody Police Victim Services commonly assist in situations such as:
-          Break and enters
-          Assaults
-          Robberies
-          Sexual Assaults
-          Motor vehicle accidents with injuries
-          Family disputes
-          Sudden death and suicides
-          Other traumatic incidents

How Do We Help?

By providing services such as:
-          crisis intervention by trained workers 24 hours a day
-          practical assistance
-          emotional support
-          referrals to community agencies for counselling, legal assistance, transition houses
-          updates on the progress of police investigation
-          updates on the progress of court process
-          preparation and accompaniment if you have to testify in court
-          assistance in applying for crime victims’ assistance

General assistance is available Monday to Friday from 9AM to 10 PM however workers are available twenty-four hours a day to provide crisis intervention.

Volunteer Work

Port Moody Police Victim Services has a team of  highly trained volunteers to provide service to our community.  If you are at least 19 years of age, able to pass a police security check, possess excellent communication skills, are willing to attend approximately 60 hours of training sessions and are able to commit a minimum of 4 hours per week on a consistent basis please call our office for an application package.
