DRIVER FLEES, CRASHES WITH PASSENGER IN TRUNK

FILE: 2026-1636
Port Moody Police investigated an unusual collision Saturday morning.

On April 18, 2026 just after 4 a.m., a patrol officer spotted a heavily occupied Honda sedan with an ‘N’ decal travelling on Clarke Road. The officer turned his police vehicle around to attempt to stop the vehicle and the driver of the Honda fled onto a side street. A short time later, the officer located the vehicle which had crashed into the front yard of a residential home.

In addition to the driver, 5 passengers were located inside of the vehicle. One passenger was inside of the vehicle’s trunk at the time of the collision.

The 19-year-old class 7 driver did not pass the roadside alcohol screening test and now faces multiple Motor Vehicle Act charges and a driving prohibition. All of the parties were assessed by firefighters at scene.

“Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported as a result of this collision,” states Constable Sam Zacharias, adding that “this vehicle had more occupants than seats and it certainly could have been a far worse outcome. We would like to remind the public to always plan a safe ride home – there are so many options available including public transit and rideshares.”
