HIGH-RISK DRIVING MONTH CONTINUES
Port Moody Police continue to remove vehicles from the road throughout high-risk driving month. Below are a few recent incidents of note:
- On May 22 at about 1 a.m., a patrol officer clocked a BMW sedan travelling westbound at 151 km/h on Barnet Highway – well above the 80 km/h speed limit. The class 7N driver had his vehicle impounded and faces a minimum $483 ticket.
- On May 18 at about 1 p.m., an officer stopped a motorcycle travelling at 96 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone near Barnet Highway and St Johns Street. The female rider was determined to be a prohibited driver and was operating the motorcycle without insurance. The bike was impounded and the rider was arrested, now facing multiple charges.
- On May 14 at around 10:30 p.m., patrol officers observed two vehicles street racing on Barnet Highway near Reed Point Way, travelling at 147 km/h in the posted 80 km/h corridor. The drivers were stopped and face charges under the Motor Vehicle Act as well as a impoundments for street racing.
“May is high-risk driving month and the Port Moody Police Department has enhanced its enforcement” states Constable Sam Zacharias. “We continue to see high-risk driving behaviour in our community and we are again reminding the motoring public to slow down and use caution on our roads.”
