POLICE KEPT BUSY AT SASAMAT LAKE YESTERDAY EVENING

Port Moody Police were kept busy attending calls for service at Sasamat Lake on Friday evening.

On July 24, 2026 just before 7:30 p.m., officers were called to the lake’s float walk for a fight involving numerous individuals. A bystander jumped in an attempt to stop the melee and unfortunately sustained injuries – including the loss of several of his teeth. The suspects dispersed prior to police arrival and investigators would like to speak with any additional witnesses.

Police were also kept busy at the lake throughout the evening with other calls including the arrest of a very intoxicated female in a trail – who at one point had to be carried by officers. Frontline officers fielded a report of a male who went missing while out for a swim, but fortunately was later located safely. As well, much later in the evening, officers assisted security guards with ejecting several trespassers who were refusing to leave the lake hours past its closing time. 

“This lake becomes quite busy in the summer months and we tend to see an uptick in calls for service,” states Constable Sam Zacharias. “We want to once again reiterate that there is no tolerance for consumption of drugs or alcohol at this park. We work closely with park rangers to ensure it is a safe environment for all parkgoers and we encourage anyone who witnesses unruly or unsafe behaviour to contact us right away.”
