PORT MOODY POLICE BOARD ADVISES OF CHIEF CONSTABLE’S RETIREMENT
Chief Constable Fleugel joined the Port Moody Police Department in 2017 and has provided steady, principled leadership during a time of significant change in policing. His tenure has been marked by a strong commitment to community safety, organizational excellence, and collaborative partnerships.
Under his leadership, Port Moody has remained one of the safest communities in British Columbia, reflecting his focus on community-based policing, crime prevention, and public trust. Chief Constable Fleugel also successfully guided the department through the COVID-19 pandemic and the evolving complexities of modern policing.
Mayor Meghan Lahti, Police Board Chair expressed her appreciation: “On behalf of the Port Moody Police Board and the community we serve, I want to extend our sincere appreciation to Chief Constable Fleugel for his outstanding leadership and service. Since joining PMPD in 2017, he has demonstrated unwavering dedication to public safety and has guided the department with professionalism and integrity.”
Chief Constable Fleugel has indicated his intention to remain in his role through the end of 2026 to support a thoughtful leadership transition, though timelines may be adjusted as needed to
ensure continuity.
The Police Board will begin a recruitment process to identify the next Chief Constable. Further details about the transition will be shared in the coming months.
